Compare UBL Standard, Special, DUO, and QUAD sets to find the best fit for your collection. We break down the differences in tuck box design, included decks, and value.
Quick answer
If you want the full UBL experience with both Standard and Special editions at the best per-deck price, go for the QUAD SET. For a single deck, choose the Special Edition if you prefer a flashier tuck box, or the Standard Edition if you like the monochrome manga art style.
What makes the Standard and Special editions different?
The Standard Edition features a monochrome tuck box with black-and-white illustrations of characters and team logos from the "I'm Back!" arc, all overlaid on a stylized basketball court. The Special Edition uses hot-foiling on the tuck box and colorized illustrations of the same characters and logos, with the basketball court design acting as a flip-book. Both contain 54 fully customized playing cards, but the visual treatment is the main difference.
If you are drawn to the original manga aesthetic, the Standard Edition's black-and-white art will feel authentic. If you want a more premium, eye-catching box with color and foil, the Special Edition is the way to go.
Why consider the DUO or QUAD sets?
The DUO SET includes one Standard Edition and one Special Edition, giving you both visual styles in one purchase. The QUAD SET includes two Standard Editions and two Special Editions, making it the best value if you plan to keep one set sealed and use another, or if you want to share with a friend.
When you buy the DUO SET, you save compared to buying the two decks separately. The QUAD SET offers an even better per-deck price, especially if you already know you want multiple copies of both editions.
Decision rules: Which UBL set should you buy?
- Buy the Standard Edition if: You prefer the monochrome manga art style, want a single deck at the lowest entry price, and don't need the foil or colorized tuck box.
- Buy the Special Edition if: You want a flashier tuck box with hot-foiling and colorized illustrations, and you enjoy the flip-book effect on the court design.
- Buy the DUO SET if: You want both editions in one purchase and prefer a lower total cost than buying them separately, but you only need one of each.
- Buy the QUAD SET if: You want the best per-deck value, plan to keep one set sealed and use another, or want to share with a friend or fellow collector. This is the most economical option if you need multiple copies of both editions.
